Thoughts for Sunday

The business of Progressives is to go on making mistakes. The business of Conservatives is to prevent mistakes from being corrected. - G. K. Chesterton

Of all the varieties of virtues, liberalism is the most beloved. - Aristotle

As Mankind becomes more liberal, they will be more apt to allow that all those who conduct themselves as worthy members of the community are equally entitled to the protections of civil government. I hope ever to see America among the foremost nations of justice and liberality. - George Washington

Liberalism seems to be related to the distance people are from the problem. - Whitney Young

Liberalism is trust of the people tempered by prudence. Conservatism is distrust of the people tempered by fear. - William Gladstone

Liberalism, above all, means emancipation - emancipation from one's fears, his inadequacies, from prejudice, from discrimination, from poverty. - Hubert Humphrey

Just wanted to point out a fact regarding your George Washington quote. Our founding fathers - including George Washington were all liberals. They are what we call Libertarians today. Liberalism today is not the same as liberalism during the 1700's. Liberalism was hijacked by progressives. The Liberals of the 1700's are much closer to today's conservatives and libertarians than today's liberals. If you're going to use a quote from our founding fathers - you need to put it in context and perspective. Don't for one second think our founding fathers agree with any of today's progressive and liberal policies. They are probably turning over in their graves to see how socialist our country has become compared to what they started. Entitlements are unconstitutional. You should check out the history of Davy Crockett.

True. Those founding fathers owned slaves and were more concerned with amassing and maintaining their own wealth than they were about aiding the common man.

Definitely closer to modern Conservatives than Liberals.

Not sure how that fact helps you defend Conservatism....
